CHECKPOINT # 4 growing 15.8.2018 - 1.6.2019
The fourth Checkpoint was a series of workshops offered to different existing groups (schools, day-care centers, elderly care facilities, civilian service groups, work groups, etc) through fall 2018 to spring 2019. The workshops were run by the international residence artists of the Loviisa Guest Studio as well as local TransFolk artists. TransFolk’s participation in the Education ministry’s Curious Class pilot program was also a part of the Checkpoint.
The theme of Growing was conceptualised as something more than just getting bigger, as something that happens when we do things together. Participating in artistic processes and collaborating to create something are fertile platforms for growth in a community. The local community is very important to the TransFolk programme, and one of the main goals of the festival is to work together with the community, not just making art that the community can come and see.
